We partner with refugee community support groups and organisations throughout Sydney, working with communities to facilitate and run art workshops. These are everything from creative art classes, to wellbeing and art therapy, to up-skilling community craft groups to assist them in establishing their own social enterprises.

Some of the work we’ve done:

  • Mural co-design workshops

  • Artistic development workshop series with refugee and new migrant students in collaboration with Thrive

  • Art wellbeing and up-skilling workshops with the Womens Craft Hub from the House of Welcome

  • Art therapy workshop series with JRS clients

  • Exploring gender-based issues through art with teenage women from CALD and refugee backgrounds

A community initiative where street artists and refugee artists come together to collaborate on designs and paint public murals across Western Sydney. The walls we painted in 2017 helped to spread a positive & inclusive message of 'welcome' towards refugees and people seeking asylum, celebrating diversity and projecting the voice of new Australians.

Art From the World creative workshops are taught by refugee artists and makers who share their skills and culture with the public. These workshops provide meaningful employment to refugee artists, create a community that welcomes new Australians and celebrates the skills and traditions they bring, & fosters a culture of understanding and connection between people seeking asylum and the rest of Australian.

Learn the art of Persian felt animals, micro-macramé jewellery, coffee painting, political cartooning, wood carving, Sierra Leonean storytelling and more..

Workshops are collaboratively brought to you by Welcome Studio & Work-Shop, Chippendale

Welcome Studio financially contributes to the House of Welcome, an asylum seeker support centre in Western Sydney. They provide important services to people seeking asylum at risk of or experiencing homelessness and barriers to wellbeing. This includes housing, financial and emergency assistance, advocacy, case work, employment programs and skill development courses.

We provided targeted funding to program areas where we can have the biggest impact. Our most recent round of funding is assisting the establishment of Welcome Feasts, a social enterprise catering company designed by and employing people seeking asylum.
