Alana from Dinosaur Records speaks about why they care about supporting refugees, and what Dinosaur Records is all about:
Why is welcoming refugees in Australia important to you guys?
"It's important that refugees are welcomed by Australians as it creates the momentum for a changing of attitudes that will hopefully turn into proactive actions, regarding the treatment, then the acceptance of asylum seekers and refugees that are in dire need of aid from our country.
We were brought up being taught that Australia prides itself on being a multicultural, accepting nation, with ample resources and land. I find it difficult to comprehend such horrible, dehumanising, traumatising & life threatening circumstances that refugees have had to go through, let alone that people are being subjected to this under Australia’s care.
By law the Australian Government has obligations to respect and protect the human rights of the people seeking refuge in Australia. This is not happening."
Tell us about Dinosaur Records and why you do what you do?
"Dinosaur Records is a Southern Beaches, community-based initiative that began slowly in 2014 and has started to see some pretty sweet things happen locally & in the Sydney city this year. We & the bands that participate in what we do are striving to create a record label in the Southern Beaches & more of a nightlife that revolves around good times and an expanding live music community.
By donating to Welcome Studio, we are getting behind something we believe in, we’re giving back to the community & we are showing our support to both the members of Welcome Studio and asylum seekers and refugees."
